Location: Ybor City / Columbus Drive Area – Tampa, FL
Pay: $18–$21 per hour (starting)
Schedule: Part-time (with potential for additional hours or expanded role)
Position Overview
The Lotus Coalition is seeking compassionate, grounded, and resource-knowledgeable Drop-In Center Support Staff to work directly with individuals experiencing homelessness, housing instability, recovery challenges, and related vulnerabilities. This role is hands-on and people-centered, supporting daily drop-in operations while helping guests access resources, services, and safe housing.
Required Knowledge & Experience
Demonstrated understanding of the populations we serve, including:
Individuals experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity
People in recovery or active substance use
Survivors of trauma, trafficking, or domestic violence
Individuals with mental health or medical vulnerabilities
Familiarity with local Tampa Bay resources (shelters, food programs, medical clinics, behavioral health, outreach partners, etc.)
Ability to meet people where they are, without judgment
Key Responsibilities
Welcome and support guests accessing the drop-in center
Provide information, referrals, and guidance to appropriate local resources
Assist with basic assessments, intakes, and documentation
Help identify individuals eligible for safe or emergency housing placements
Coordinate and provide transportation to appointments, shelters, housing placements, or partner agencies (transportation is required)
Maintain accurate records, notes, and reports as required
Assist with daily center operations (organization, restocking supplies, maintaining a calm environment)
Support crisis de-escalation when needed using trauma-informed approaches
Communicate regularly with supervisors and team members regarding guest needs and safety concerns
Additional Expectations
Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
Comfort working in a dynamic, sometimes unpredictable environment
Willingness to adapt as needs change day to day
Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a team
Preferred (but not required)
Prior experience in outreach, peer support, case management, or recovery services
Lived experience relevant to the population served
Knowledge of coordinated entry or housing navigation systems
CPR/Narcan training (or willingness to be trained)
Work Environment
This is an active, in-person role within a community drop-in center
Some days may involve high emotional demand; support and supervision are provided
Hours may increase over time based on program needs and funding
